Day 1:  arrive to Addis Ababa

It should be on Saturday for next market on Sunday. Arrive at Bole international Airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight – Hotel (4*) – Addis Ababa

Day 2: Senbete (Sunday) Market – Kombolcha /Dessie

This trip can only be done on every Sunday for the market takes place. Drive 270 km to Senbete appreciating Landscape scenery. Senbete market is a place where the highlands and lowlands meet, and brings together different ethnic groups: the Afar with their camels and distinctive knives, the Oromo, the Amhara and Argoba.  Overnight –Hotel (3*) in Kombolcha or Dessie (25km further drive)

Day 3: Camel Market in Bati Town- Semera

Monday, Drive from Kombolcha/Dessie (376km) to Bati (41km from Kombolcha) for camel market on Monday. In the market, people of Amhara, Oromo & Afar are easily observed. Then drive to Semera Overnight – Hotel – Semera

Day 4: Semera – Afdera

Drive from Semera to Lake Afdera. In the Afternoon; visit the Salt Lake of Afdera/ Afrera. It is here where you can see people extracting edible salt in large quantity and transport it on trucks to Addis Ababa.   Overnight – at a very basic hotel or camping – Afdera. 

Day 5:  Afdera – Afar village Abdelali –base camp before climbing to Erta Ale (Bottom of Erta Ale) 

Trek towards Erta Ale via Afdera – Mekelle Road – Afar village Abdelali. Overnight – camping

Day 6:  Erta Ale – Active Volcano

Morning, climb Erta Ale, accompanying with camping and cooking gears, being loaded by Afar Camel (3-4hrs walk). After siesta, explore the extraordinary lava that babbles from its mouth of Arte Ale volcanic fire. During night time, the volcano will be fully seen with its magnificent color of zigzagging fire, producing from huge rocks. Therefore; in the evening, we will descend from Camping site to the drama of the oldest active volcanic Lake in the Great Rift Valley System.  Overnight- camping on the top of Arte Ale. 

Day 7:  Erta Ale – Active Volcano – Afar village Vaideddu / Waydodom

Descend down and trek towards the Afar village called Vaideddu / Waydodom. Overnight – camp

Day 8: Waydodom- Ahmed Ela – nearby salt extraction place

Trek towards Ahmed Ela where the traditional salt extraction is taking place (near Lake Asalé) Overnight – camping (in Afar House) – Ahmed Ela 

 Day 9:  Dallol Depression and Lake Asalé – Assa Bole Canyon

 Early morning (6:30am); excursion to the Danakil depression. Visit Dallol / Danakil Depression area:  Old Italian cave / potash industry site, the traditional salt extraction site from where many camels are waiting to be loaded rock salts – just nearby the Salt Lake of Asalé. Then approach to Lake Asalé then towards Assa Bole Canyon. Overnight – camping – Assa Bole Canyon

 Day 10:  Assa Bole – Malabidai

Trekking Sabba river – Malabidai – Camping

Day 11:  Malabidai – Michael Imba – Hawezen

Malabidai- stop Berahile arrival salt caravan – Michael Imba church – Overnight – Lodge or Hotel in Hawezen

Day 12:  Debre Domo Monastery (allowed only for Men)

Drive, climb and visit Debre Damo monastery (Ethio – Eritrean border, open only for men) – back to Hawezen – Overnight – Lodge or Hotel in Hawezen

Day 13:  Hawezen – Mekelle

Visit Abune Yemata Guh church (spectacular scenery) and drive to Mekele. Overnight –Hotel Mekelle

Day 14: Yimrehane Kiristos –Lalibela

Drive to the cave church called Yimrehane Kiristos (42 km from Lalibela). This Church has been constructed by King Yimrehane Kiristos13th Century. In the church, there are more than 5000 thousand dead human skeletons lying without any coverage for the past 700 years. They are supposed to be pilgrimages from Syria, Egypt and Ethiopia. The murals on the dark walls of the church, the year round spring water – descending from the top of the church and the forest around are very impressive and worthy to be visited. Then we drive to Lalibela. Overnight – at hotel – Lalibela 

 Day 15:  full day in Lalibela

Early morning; Hike to Asheten Mariam Mountain Church (optional) .After lunch and a short siesta, visit Rock Churches in Lalibela https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lalibela . Visit the first & second group of churches: 1.Bet Golgotha, 2.Bet Mikael, 3.Bet Mariam, 4.Bet Meskel, 5.Bet Danaghel and 6.Bet Medhane Alem. Bet Medhane Alem is the largest monolithic rock hewn church in the world, built like a Greek temple! In a corner there are three empty graves symbolically dug for biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. (Second group): 7.Bete Amanuel, 8.Bete Marqorewos, 9.Bete Abba Libanos, 10.Bete Gabriel -Rufael and11. Bet Giyorgis is the most elegant of all Lalibela churches, which lies somewhat isolated in the southwest part of the town on a sloping rock terrace. Also visit Nakuto Làabe Cave Church (5km from Lalibela) -Overnight –hotel – Lalibela (2630m of altitude)

 Day 16: Lalibela – Addis – Departure

Morning, fly from Lalibela to Addis Ababa.  Visit the selected sites of Addis. Dinner at traditional restaurant with live tribal dances and departure (end of the trip)
