Day1: City Tour of Addis Ababa

Arrive in the morning at 10 o'clock to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport meet with me there and transfer to Ghion Hotel or similar for check in and drive to the Entoto Mountain for a panoramic view of Addis, Entoto Museum and the old palace of MenelikII (at Entoto Mountain), the National Museum, where one can see different archaeological findings, trinity Museum, Mausoleum of emperor MenelikII and finally Merkato – the largest open market in Africa. Overnight –hotel - Addis Ababa

Day2: Lalibela Churches 

Morning, check in to the domestic flight terminal at 5am (local time) to fly from Addis Ababa to Lalibela. Visit the first group of six churches: 1.Bet Golgotha, 2.Bet Mikael, 3.Bet Mariam, 4.Bet Meskel, 5.Bet Danaghel and 6.Bet Medhane Alem. Bet Medhane Alem is the largest monolithic rock hewn church in the world, built like a Greek temple! In a corner there are three empty graves symbolically dug for biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Afternoon, visit the Second group: 7.Bete Amanuel, 8.Bete Marqorewos, 9.Bete Abba Libanos, 10.Bete Gabriel -Rufael and11. Bet Giyorgis is the most elegant of all Lalibela churches, which lies somewhat isolated in the southwest part of the town on a sloping rock terrace. Also visit Nakuto Làabe Cave Church (5km from Lalibela).  Overnight – Hotel - Lalibela

Day3:  Lalibela -Castles of Gondar   & Simien Mountains National Park 

After breakfast; fly from Lalibela to Gondar and visit the Castles of emperor Fassiladas, his swimming pool, the empress Minitab’s Palace, the Banquet Room of Emperor Bakaffa… the 17century church of Debre Birhan Silassie (Light of Trinity). After lunch; drive to the Semien Mountains national Park. On the way; visit the Felasha/Jews village.  Overnight – tented camp in Sanka Ber – Semien Mountains National Park

Day4: Geech (Gich)

Morning, start the first day trek From Sanka Ber to Geech (also spelled as Gich)). At many points on the way, you will discover the endemic Gelada Baboon. Lunch at suitable place on the way.  Overnight – Tented Camp – Geech

Day5: Imetgo peak Mountain

Climb Imetgo and Kedadit (Peak Mountains) and proceed to Chennek. On this day, you will appreciate the extremely fabulous Simien Mountains landscape, Gelada Baboon and a big chance for the Walia Ibex at Chennek. Overnight – tented Camp - Chennek

Day6: Buayt -Ambiko

Morning, explore Chennek area to see Walia ibex in groups. Here, you may see ibex and Gelada Baboons heating the morning sun together. After Breakfast, trek from Chennek to Ambiko via peak mountain named Buayt (4430m). Overnight – Camping – Ambiko

Day7: Ras Dashen (Ras Dejen)

Wednesday; 06June2012: Morning. Climb Ras Dashen, the Highest Mountain in Ethiopia from Ambiko (4543 meters). At the top of this mountain, you will indeed feel the climax experience and mountain breathing satisfaction amongst peaks in the Simien chained mountains. Descend down to Ambiko for dinner and overnight - Ambiko

Day8: Simien N.Park & back to Gondar Castles

Trek back to Chennek and drive to Gondar. Overnight – Hotel – Gondar 

Day9: Castles of Gondar & Bahir Dar

Morning, visit the Castles of emperor Fassiladas, his swimming pool, the empress Minitab’s Palace, the Banquet Room of Emperor Bakaffa… the 17century church of Debre Birhan Silassie (Light of Trinity) then drive from Gondar to Bahir Dar (187km asphalt road).On the way; visit the Awramba/ Awra Amba Community & landscapes. Near Bahir Dar visit the hill of Bezawit (roughly 5km after Gojjam – Gondar border Bridge). At this point, you are visit the Palace of Emperor Haile SellassieI (entering is prohibited), the source of the Blue Nile- leaving Lake Tana and panoramic view of Bahir Dar.

Afternoon, city tour of Bahir Dar which includes: market where you can find the pottery, traditional hand-made woven clothes, and Woito Basket market then drive to the small town of Tiss Abay (32km rough road) to visit the impressive Blue Nile Falls, locally known as Tis Issat means in Amharic: 'Smoke of Fire'. Much of the water is diverted for Hydro electric Generation plant but it is still worth visiting for remaining waterfalls, trekking around and to see a Portuguese Bridge (17Century) and the country side. The area around the waterfall is amazingly fertile and the Amhara people who live here farm wheat, sorghum and Teff (from which Injera, the national bread, is made). After the fall, return to Bahir Dar. Overnight –Hotel– Bahir Dar 

Day10: Boat Excursion on Lake Tana for Full Day  

Morning ; take a chartered boat trip on Lake Tana to visit monasteries (constructed during 14 up to 18 century) for full day: Tana Cherkos(prohibited for women),Dega Estifanos(prohibited for women),Narga Selassie – largest island, Ura Kidane Mehret, and Azwa Maryam (both in Zeghie Peninsula), Kibran Church (prohibited for women) & Entos Eyesus. Overnight –Hotel– Bahir Dar 

Monasteries on Lake Tana: Lake Tana set at 1830m above sea level & is the largest lake in Ethiopia. Years before; the islands on the lake were the home lands of Felasha/ Jewish people. It is believed almost by all Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and some scholars that the Tana Cherkos monastery had been used for the Ark of the Covenant for about 600 years. In the fourth century AD; the Ark of the Covenant was moved to Axum by the command of Kind Ezana with a tremendous ceremony. At Tana Cherkos; old spiritual service tools in connection to the Ark of the Covenant are still to be seen. Some monasteries are cherished with treasures such as murals on the walls of monasteries, crowns and royal ropes.

Day11: Bahir Dar - Addis

Morning, fly from Bahir Dar to Addis Ababa and City tour of Addis. Depending on the remaining time & interest, drive to the Entoto Mountain for a panoramic view of Addis, Entoto Museum and the old palace of MenelikII (at Entoto Mountain), the National Museum, where one can see different archaeological findings, trinity Museum, Mausoleum of emperor MenelikII and finally Merkato – the largest open market in Africa. Evening, dinner at ethnical live dance club to observe different cultural dances (Habesha Cultural Restaurant or Yod Abyssinia Restaurant) & Overnight –Hotel – Addis

Day12: City Tour of Addis Ababa – Departure

Morning, transfer to Bole International Airport for departure (end of the trip)
